PackerInsanity’s top ten Packers memories…

1) January 26th, 1997

Superbowl XXXI. Specifically, Reggie White running around with the Lombardi Trophy. I was living in England at the time and my Dad woke me up at 2am so we could watch the game live. I will admit I fell asleep a few times on the couch, but I will never forget that moment…the old #4 we all used to love…such an iconic image. I spent the next two weeks in the school computer lab looking up pictures of #4, Desmond Howard, Andre Rison, and Reggie White on that new fangled internet.

2) January 4th, 2004
Matty Hasselbeck winning the overtime coin toss, declaring, “We want the ball and we’re gonna score” and then proceeding to toss a pick six to one of my favorite Packers of all time, Al Harris.

3) November 6th, 2000
Antonio Freeman’s Monday night miracle. I loved Antonio Freeman because he didn’t catch with his hands, and was too short, small and slow to be a #1 receiver in the NFL. Despite all that, he found a way to get open and make huge plays for so many years.

4) December 22nd, 2003
He-who-shall-not-be-named’s absolute shredding of the Oakland Raiders after the death of his father. There was an eerily magical aura surrounding that game.

5) October 29th, 2007
He-who-shall-not-be-named deep strike to Greg Jennings for an overtime win at Denver. I remember racing home from my bar volleyball league to walk in at the start of overtime. I didn’t even get to sit down before I was racing around my apartment, jumping up and down. It was also the first time I became familiar with Jay Cutler’s pouty face.

2007 Seattle playoff game in the snow. I was working at Home Depot as a cashier supervisor. On my break I went next door to Target, bought a 27 inch LCD and an HD antenna on my credit card and set it up behind register one. By halftime there were twenty of us watching, including the store manager, and not a customer in the store. As soon as my shift was done, I packed up the TV and returned it to Target. I love PackerNation.

2007 loss to the Cowboys. He-who-shall-not-be-named goes down and the youngster, Aaron Rodgers, enters the game and nearly rallies the Pack on the road with an 18-26, 201yd, 1TD performance. Phew…the kid can play. Unfortunately, the only video I could find was the entire game with the wrong date on the headline. Sorry.

NFC Championship versus the Bears. Absolutely pure joy. There is nothing like winning the Halas Trophy at Soldier Field and holding a lifetime of bragging rights. Brian Urlacher, keep thinking you’re on the better team…

Winning Superbowl XLV. I almost didn’t include it because of its recency. I think my favorite play was Nick Collins INT for a TD. I just love watching Roethlisberger suck.

Crushing the Bears on New Years Eve…the best part, I was watching the game with a disgruntled Bears fan.

Now it’s your turn…whats your favorite Packers memory?

One Response to PackerInsanity’s top ten Packers memories…

Nice list. I’m not sure I could do a top 10.

Three random games that are favorites for me are:

Oct 14, 1996 vs SF. It’s sort of bitter sweet. It sucks because Robert Brooks got hurt. But Don Beebe stepped up and had over 200 yards receiving and Chris Jackie kicked a 53 yarder in OT for the win. I feel like that game was very important in what we accomplished that season.

Nov 23, 1997 vs Dallas. The only time we beat them in the 90s. And the first time I was old enough to remember beating them (I’m sure I saw the game in 89, but was a little young to remember haha). After suffering through all of those losses in the previous years, watching us put up 35 second half points was very enjoyable.

Jan 2, 2011 vs Chicago. Of all the games I’ve been to, this was probably my favorite. It was so cold, it was basically a playoff game and it was a defensive battle. Jay Cutler’s game sealing INT happened right in front of me.
